The Eastern Metropolitan Disability Respite Forum for Families and Carers was organised in Knox on Saturday 14 October 2006 by Yooralla. Over 70 carers, families and support agencies attended. The aims of the day included:

§ Providing information on respite options,

§ Giving families and carers the opportunity to talk with each other and to service providers, and

§ Seeking feedback on respite from families and carers to direct future initiatives.

A Zing session was built into the program to address the latter aim, and contributed to a wide-ranging discussion of issues that may be addressed in some way in the future.

The process was participants were asked ‘what are the key issues’, as well as any recommendations they may have. People then worked in groups on their tables to put forward suggestions on the computer system. The way Zing works enables people to put forward short statements, which are then shown up on the big screen in a non-identifying manner.
